Engine Part ID

Hello,

Does anyone know what the engine part in this photo is called and what its function is?

It's located at the front of the engine.The cover holds down a diaphram and spring with a rubber pipe coming out of it.

I need to replace this as it broke whilst trying to open it to investigate an oil leak from it.

The car is a W210 E320Cdi 2000.

Oil separator part number A 611 016 03 34
Yu will need some other parts aswell, rubber hose from separator, poss and new sensor, a gasket for the separator.
