engine revs up and down

[S320 newbie]

I've just given my s320 to a mechanic to change the temperature switch and tighten the clutch fan (engine was overheating), and after getting the car back I noticed that the engine isn't running smoothly when going into reverse or when the car has stopped at a traffic light - the engine sort of revs up and down. Any input on what's wrong? Cheers.

he has obviously not re-connected somthing... 'tighten fan clutch'???? Do you mean replace the viscous coupling for the fan - theres no adjustemnt, its a replacement only job.

Apparently (according to the mechanic) it was coincidental, and unrelated to the work he had done on the temperature switch and clutch fan....he opened the engine cover, unpluged and repluged the spark cables, and the problem of revving was solved.....great news is that my engine temperature is about 90 all the time (phew).
