Hi

I bought an auto A160 (51 model) a month ago. Car has done around 58k miles.

Over the weekend, I parked up and removed the key but found the engine was still running. I was able to start driving again too. Reinserting, turning, and removing key still didn't kill the engine. In the end, I did different things (press alarm button, open door,..) and it turned off but not sure what made it switch off.

Anyone know what the problem may be?

A similar things happened previously, (not when I was driving), but at that time apparently the fan continued running even though the car was off, and subsequently drained the battery. Mercedes looked at it and said there was a "problem with the relay for the EPG valve" (some exhaust recirculation) which meant the fan was continuingly running.

On top of that, the steering column was replaced last week as there was too much play in it.

Are any/all of these problems connected?

Thanks

I personally couldn't say, but I thought I'd comment, in case it's been missed, as it will give your query a bump back up to the top.

Hi
Is it diesel?

Not if it's a 51 plate A160!
I have never heard of this problem before. Only thing I can suggest is when the steering column was replaced, the ignition switch has to be removed. May be possible that something is caught/trapped/shorting out & allowing the engine to run with the key out. Does the steering lock still come on when this happens??

Hi
Do you know which fan was running ?

Under the drivers footwell is a cover hiding the battery. Open the cover and to the front are relays. There you will find a folded piece of paper with a description of what each relay does. Check this list to see if your car has an ignition relay or starter relay and let me know.
