Engine warning light on - 190D 2.5 Auto Diesel

Hi All,

Obviously something wrong! The dashboard engine warning light came on occasionally, now it is on virtually all of the time. Only had the car a few weeks and no owners manual.

It drives well, temp guage, oil pressure at 3, sounds fine.

Can anyone suggest what may be wrong please?

What light is on in your car they only have three lights that relates to the engine is Battery, oil level and heater plug lights.

The lights read from left to right as such main beam, battery, brake pads, handbrake/brake fluid, oil level, ASD if fitted, windscreen washers, ABS if fitted SRS if fitted, heater plugs.

ASD is for anti locking differential ABS is brakes And SRS is air bag.

Engine warning light

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.
The light is Orange, with a basically square icon looks a bit like an engine. Is this the oil warning light? I checked the oil and if anything itmay be too full, certainly not too low.

If it's the same warning light array as on a W124 diesel then it's probably the coolant level light (anti-freeze is low). The coolant symbol is a rectangle with a protrusion at the top on the right hand side (meant to symbolise the filler cap) a gap a third of the way down on the left hand side and the bottom line is slightly thicker and wavy on top (meant to symbolise water I think!). If it is this then check the header tank and if necessary top up to between the minimum and maximum mark with 50/50 mix of anti-freeze and water. Oil warning light is an oil can symbol. Hope this solves your problem.

I'll top up tomorrow, though when I looked last weekend it seemed OK. Looks like another case of RTFM.
