Had the joy of a whole day driving my car today, however, I seem to think that a whining engine sound, mainly as I pull away, is getting worse, and starting to think, prehaps the supercharger?. Its only done 12K miles, theres no lose of power, do you other 55 engined owners have a whine to the engine sound on pull away! am I worrying for no reason? Appreciate comments

Difficult to say without seeing the car, but the bearing within the supercharger clutch is quite common for failure, leading to a whine that could be what you are describing...

Do you get the whine with light throttle pulling away, or heavy throttle application??

As it's an 06, take it to a dealer under full MB warranty. It may, however, just be the supercharger itself, as these do make a slight whine by nature of their design.

Agreed, but it is slight. Unless you are listening for it, you would hardly notice...

Spot on about warranty!!

Thanks guys, The whine noise, is much more noticable under light acceleration, (pulling away), and has certainly got noisey than it had been in the past. But as you suggest, I will book it into MB, I really wanted to make sure that something was not quite right, and from your comments it may appear that the charger, or related item, is not as it should be. Many thanks.

Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
At least if you take it in now, your complaint will be recorded, even if they can't find the problem.

Quite a useful record if it decides to explode spectacularly somewhere down the line :)
