My W126 500SEl wont rev over 5,200 RPM when held in gear and not over 4,500 RPM left in drive

I have new fuel pumps (adiquet pressure). Rotor button is not centifugal type.

new plugs leads etc. Any ideas?

is it missing when at these revs, if so check fuel pump relay but doubt its that, cud be fuel govenor on side of metering head. last check valve/ditributor timing as may have jumped?

Did you change your fuel filter when you did the pumps? If it is bunged up, the engine will get starved of fuel at a high rpm.

Interesting that my very first post on here was for a car with the same faults,,it turned out that the incorrect fuel pump relay had been fitted.

At 4,500 rpm , in "Drive", in a 500se you must be doing at least 110mph. What is the problem?.

Mine hardly ever gets above 3000rpm and I don't hang about. Strikes me as a crazy post!. Just my opinion.

When I mentioned "left in drive". I was referring to the car changes gear at 4500 RPM at WOT going up through the gears. I can make it rev out to 5500 if I hold it in gear but then stops at that RPM like it has hit a rev limiter.

I have new fuel pumps, clean filters new plugs leads timing OK. Have not checked fuel pump relays though ill look into it.

IMO I don't think asking a question who's vehicles red line is 6,000 RMP when it changes at 4500 is a "Crazy" post when you missing out out possibly another 20 kws of power.

The fuel pump relay does contain a limiter

Its changing gear at 4500, (if left in drive) but if i leaving it in 2nd gear as an example it wont rev past 5500

I cant remember what ur car red lines at, but there wont be much more useful power past 5500, make sure ur gearbox control cable is adjusted correctly.
