Hello All,
I've just bought a 1998 W202 C200 estate and I have 2 small problems.

First is that the central locking works fine on the remote (locking and unlocking) but when I'm in the car and I use the dash mounted button everything except the driver's door will lock. This problem also occurs with the automatic locking when the car's moving.

Second is the heater. I just need to check that the centre vents should blow warm air when the dials are set to red. Also I've turned the fan blower switch to 'off' when driving but it didn't actually stop running until I turned off the ignition. I've got two temp dials, a fan speed dial, a distribution dial and 3 buttons for the heated rear window, air recirculation/rest and EC. The EC button is off and the red light is on.

Sorry for the long-winded post. Just wanted to provide some detail.

Many thanks

P.S. When I start the car from cold, I start to feel warm air from the vents within about 5 mins. Is that normal?

the center vents are fresh air only and no matter what you set the temperature controls too, they should only blow air in from the outside of the car

i recall reading about the EC button and whether the red light meant it was on or off, please try both ways to see does it make a difference,

if one of the 4 doors doesnt lock properly when you press the lock button then you may have a vacuum problem (hose broken somewhere)

however your car may also be electronic locking, i'm not sure....

Hi .You may have aproblem with the blower air regulator. The blower fan should turn off at the last position. If it dosent it would suggest that the regulator is not functioning. As Anyweb if you turn the EC on it would be the case that the air con function is disabled but you can still use the heater. I think you possibly have a minor malfunction with the central locking but as long as the remote opens and shuts on command I dont think you should worry about tracing the fault.

For the locking problem it's worth checking that the previous owner hasn't set the locking system to behave that way, although I'm not sure if this is possible.
