I do not know that one, or even if it is capable of checking it, there is only ever one live feed, if the unit does not switch on it does suggest that it is faulty, the optic connectors only light up when on
Wondering if I can ask a left field question here about enhancing an R class for being able to mobile office work in the back, with a large 32" monitor + deep desk space for keyboard and mouse and distance from monitor, but then easy storage to (occasionally) out all seats down and layer with mattress to sleep. How to best achieve this? what mods/materials?

Probably best to start this as a new thread (@Blobcat ). There are several R Class owners on here who may have helpful views

I think cocai would be better off with a Vito or Sprinter ..... you'd struggle with just the telly in the back of a R Class

First, pardon, but am new here and could not find a thread category that matched what I am asking.

In my case, not trying to carry more than 2-3 persons, so could conceivably take out seats.

Cheers,

Personally I would be looking at a marco polo for that.
A LWB R is just as big, but not designed for what you want, a marco polo would be closer.
if you take out a row of seats on the R you wont have a bed.

An R is probably not best for this but if you insist on an R the pre-facelift with the captain's chairs would likely be best as it gives more flexibility for creating an office space by turning the center row seats around. For the monitor the best option would likely be to use a roof mounted screen that hinges down. Everything would need fabricating from scratch and you'd also likely need additional power source to run it.

i am still in the middle of restroring my Vw T25 westfalia. I thought it could be ideal. Bed, kitchen, table, fridge, water, electric hookup.
Mobile office, mobile home, no need to fettle anything.

Pardon the ignorance, but what is the date/spec/model name of the pre-facelift R with captain's chairs?
Also, are there any which come with roof rails (so I can install a roof top bed on roof rack?

I think the OP is somewhat adamant on the w251. each to thier own.

If you add a roof bed then you need ladders OP.

Keep the thread updated with the conversion. It will be interesting.

Roof rails you need to get seperately. Roof rails are always specced to weight and are not made for beds and the weight of a human. But do check. You may be better fabricating some but then can the roof handle the weight. I wouldnt think a roof can handle more than 100kg.

All, you've been very kind to provide the various insights.
I will go for a vw transporter instead. Round peg square hole with R class, understandably.

I had a VW Caravelle Exec T5 for ~10 years and 100K miles - 10" drop down TV in the back and pop up table between middle row of seats - used it as a mobile office multiple times
Rear bench seat and middle row could turn into a bed as well as being a very very comfortable 7 seater - they're not cheap but they hold their value very well

Fitted a Kenwood head unit with separate sub-woofer (under drivers seat), dual digital TV receiver. System could play TV, DVD or Any other video source in the back and different Audio DAB+ etc in the front.

T6 has more modern engines that will meet Euro 6 requirements if you need to enter a ULEZ zone.

Difference between a T5 Transporter and a T5 Caravelle is that Transporter is a commercial and gets hit with congestion charges in some cities, Caravelle is a "car" so doesn't get hit with the same charges
