Enter GPS location as destination

Hi,

I would like to enter a GPS location say copied from Google Maps and enter it into the Mercedes Me app as a destination.
Is there any way of getting the app to accept an actual coordinate position instead of a street address?

Not sure if that is possible to be honest, but if you have the coordinates of where you wish to go, putting them into google maps would give you the nearest address anyway wouldn't it? so you could then just enter the correct postal address

I just tried it and it doesn't work... I copied the coordinates for Buckingham Palace ( 51.5014° N, 0.1419° W ) into the app and the first destination it offered was the A5104, Old Trafford Manchester.

1. Drop a pin on the Google map.
2. Scroll along the items at the bottom to find "Share" and tap on that.
3. Pick Mercedes me from the list and click on Send.

Destination is sent to the car.

I can now send exact spots for the start of a walk, etc where there is no street address.

Probably easier to tap a destination instead of typing into a Mercedes me text box.

In the UK we did postal codes correctly and are spoilt in our ability to get somewhere like a grown up. The rest of the sat nav world can't do this...

google, bing, nor here maps, support what3words there's a nasty addon from chrome which does (extra opportunity to add more spying on you - now how come I didn't think of that )

Unfortunately the What3words app does not work correctly with the Mercedes me app.

If you follow the same steps as on Google Maps then when you share to the Mercedes app you just get an error message saying it is an invalid address.

If Mercedes partly own What3words you would think they could get their app to work it?

I can do this with the COMAND 2.5 in my 2000 model year car.

I get the destination on Google maps on my phone. I then select “destination from map” on the sat nav and put the cursor where the Google maps destination shows on my phone. Hey presto! Instant real time connectivity!

I appreciate that you can achieve a similar result with the sat nav, but if you are going on a walk then with the Google approach I can pinpoint a nearby lay-by in satellite view and navigate to there. That's not possible any other way?

When you get to the car it is there waiting for you and off you go!

I have also used it for some country hotels in France where the "name" on the map is hundreds of yards from it's actual location!
With Google satellite view I can zoom right in and select the correct building.

It is also much more convenient than fiddling in the car while your other half is telling you to get a move on!

never expect ANY manufacturer to look after the car the way an owner should.... they will always claim to have checked and updated software - unless its in for a dieselgate fix - they will NEVER do any...

they don't care if your wipers don't work, the parking sensors forget to beep the, high bean assist forgets itself or your free 3 years of free map updates are ever applied

I have the latest maps as I updated them myself via the downloader. No idea about the Comand S/W version.

it is the Mercedes Me App that is complaining about not understanding the What3words share.

It is fine with Google maps and I can send multiple destinations and they are all there in the car when I start up.

The What3words is not that important to me as I am familiar with Google Maps and it does the job perfectly.
I can send all the hotels, stopping places for a motoring holiday from home and they will all be in the car waiting for me.

In France last year, looking for remote properties, I was given co-ordinates and put these into my satnav.
Worked faultlessly every time.
(Not Comand/Merc.me app/)

It does seem odd that it does not work with What3words if Mercedes have a financial interest in the business.

However, I also find the MB satnav frustrating. I like to plan my road trips (on my Laptop) with stopovers, POIs etc and there are work arounds but it is not straightforward.
