Question.
I have a 2008 Vito and have an EPS warning because of either a faulty steering angle sensor (I think) or that the alignment hasn’t been centred accurately enough. Either way I’m pretty sure it’s related to the steering angle.
There is no issue with the way the van drives and I can live with the warning light.
However I need to check that it’s not going to go into some sort of limp mode if it stays on for any length of time.
I’m going away in the van for 2 weeks (towing a caravan) round Europe and I don’t have enough time to investigate and fix it and I don’t want it to go into limp mode.
Am I right in thinking it will just give me the warning light? It seems to reset every time I turn the ignition off for any length of time.

well it would also give no support re the safety systems....

could it not be dodgy wheel speed sensors... its all intermingled - unless astronomic miles, I'd suggest sensors before steering angle sensor

did you do any extreme suspension arm changes and get the wheels out of whack ? that can throw the vehicle in a secrete "road test not completed phase" where they sometimes struggle to get hand held through successfully even with high end diagnostic support...

Yes. Just fitted a complete Bilstein/Eibach kit. Had the 4-wheel alignment done and the place that aligned it expected to be able to just centre the steering wheel after. However I’ve since found out that with Mercedes the wheel has a fixed centre position and the alignment/tracking needs to be done with the steering centred.
The alignment has been done again but still (occasionally after longer journeys) brings up the EPS warning.
I’ve booked it in for alignment again but what I wanted to check was if it it would drop into limp mode if the warning persisted without being addressed.
I will investigate it further but don’t have time before we go away.

you should care - for the ESP to keep you alive - it must understand if the steering wheel and the road wheels are pointing in the right direction... and what speed the road wheels are going around at, together with the info hitting the Yaw sensor. It must all makes sense - otherwise the maths that keeps you alive will not know what wheel to brake when

no garage that should be allowed to touch a car... should be now setting the road wheels, then hoping to move the steering wheel - that was what u did till 1990

the engine won't limp - but you might DIE .... and lets not pretend you'll drive carefully - of the 3000 a year that get splatted on UK roads, less than 1% wanted that to happen. you have a legal obligation to fix it before risking the lives of others....

In the 90s you would take the steering wheel off and move it around a few splines.

As for the rest Botus......
