Hi all, this is my first post as I'm having a problem with my E320CDI estate auto 2003.
Just recently, when the key is placed in the ignition, nothing happens and the central display tells me ESP defective and the car won't start. I try it again and then it works. However the problem gets progressively worse during the day to the point where I now have to sit in the car for about fifteen minutes before I can get the car to start. Once started the car runs great and the fault indicator goes away.
Is this something simple to repair before I take it to local dealership. I've read a bit about the brake light switch, but don't know if it applies to this model.
Two things, firstly had four new Michelin tyres (same as taken off) but problem was there before tyres put on.
Secondly, a car ran into back of mine, ever so slightly, but the ESP problem did seem to start after this event. Wondering how to repair and if it may be connected to minor bump?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi & Welcome,

There will be some fault codes logged so it will be worth getting them read out.

Welcome to the forum, I have been through all of the known faults for the 211026, 226, 022, 026 and 222 Not one ESP known fault or mentioned so sadly I have to say the same as Blobcat, there is no other way. though the brake light switch does kill the speed signal, when faulty, it does allow the car to start.

This post is too old to get any feedback on, your car does need to be plugged into STAR

STAR's faults are somelthing along the line of CAN communication problems (timeouts) with the ECU. This fault is in the ETC & ESP.

211.016 e270cdi. Based on researches, it seems to happen only on cdis. W203,w211 & w220. However, no one ever gave any closures on the threads they started :S
