Hi,

I have just had 3 engine management warning messages appear.

ESP Inoperative
Run Flat Indicator Inoperative

Then when I tried cruise control I got Speedtronic Inoperative

Any ideas folks and should I be worried ??

Many thanks.

This all depends on if the message comes back again after a restart, rain and damp can do funny things. it is all loosing a speed signal somewhere and it might be one of the 2 ESP components

Thanks,

Yes it's still coming on after a restart. I got a bush and arm replaced yesterday and need alignment done now as it's badly off. No connection I suppose ?

If this has happened since you had the alignment done, then they failed to lock the steering wheel in the straight ahead position and the center for the ESP is now lost

Probably is connected...or rather something is disconnected. Go back to your garage...have them look at it.

I haven't had the alignment done yet. My garage doesn't do it so am bringing it to a wheel centre down the road in the next couple of days. Once it is aligned should this resolve the "lost" ESP Centre ?

If your steering wheel is not dead straight, it will trigger fault certainly.

Check your speed sensor too, because that 'run flat inoperative' may be caused by inoperative speed sensor (IF your run flat system is speed sensor, not pressure sensor based? VIN will tell... only I cannot remember which code was which ). And speed sensor could affect other mentioned faults too.

Reading through, this is all down to the wheel alignment (we assume the steering wheel is 'off center' when travelling in a straight line), and will be OK when corrected.
Note that the car will need to be driven on a straight road before the warnings will clear.

Any ESP system fault will knock out cruise control and runflat system.

Had the warnings after the change of bush Malcolm. The car had been shaking at 65 mph so needed it replaced. Need the alignment done now as steering must have readjusted due to the bad bush. Thanks :)

Thanks too Alex, eases my worries :)

I've just had the same messages come up. It came on 5 minutes after driving on very icy bit bit of road. At one point I was trying to turn round and the car wouldn't stop so I selected reverse to get control. Wondered if this had set it off? Also read somewhere you could reset by disconnecting the battery but also someone told me not to disconnect the battery as the car would have to be reset by Mercedes??

No...your car would not have to be reset by MB or anyone else.

You might have to reset the one touch functions on windows and doors and the radio code. Batteries have to be disconnected for all sorts of reason...it would be daft if you had to go to MB if that happened. What would happen if you lived somewhere remote...like Shetland.

How do you reset the windows after a battery disconnect?
Also, does my car have 2 batteries in which case should I disconnect both?

I 2007 only has 1 battery.

Turn on Ignition, close each window in turn on the slow lift and hold the switch in that mode for 5 seconds after the window has closed, do it to each in turn, same with the roof.

The ESP lamp should go out as you turn the steering from lock to lock,,,if it stays on the one of the sensors has failed

thanks Malcom. Will be going out in a couple of hours and try it.
Are you saying try the steering wheel and don't bother with battery disconnect?

If you have the ESP lamp on now, and the battery has not been disconnected, then disconnecting will not help, I would imagine it is the lateral sensor that has failed, but it could be the one on the steering.

By all means try with a disconnect

Is it a diy job to replace a lateral sensor or is it a Star job?
