ETS Warning Light / Flashing triangle

Hello, i own a 1996 C36. Switching on the electrics the ETS light does not work nor the triangle. When driving the triangle does not flash. Been assured by Mercedes ETS system working fine and they need time to trace fault. Other than that they recommend new cluster at 500 pounds! Any ideas on what fault could be or where i can get my hands on a new, cheaper cluster!

There are 2 AMG C class clusters on ebay, around £175 . Though they may actually be the same one!

Seems odd though. It will almost certainly be beyond the dealer but then again, finding someone who knows it, especially as the ETS was pretty rare (salesman had to look it up when I asked him "Whats that light for?" on my 220). If the rest of the dash is fine, I can't see why only the ETS part has failed. Have a chat with an indie before shelling out.
