If the EU win on this subject stopping cars from being on the road over 10 years old this will be a disater for the classic cars. 7 and 8 year old cars will however go very very cheap due to their limited lifespan. Doesnt Tokio also have a limit on the age of cars. I do hope we can fight the EU on this one.

It is true. It was in the Daily Mail stating that the EU was considering it to help the environment

It is true. It was in yesterdays Daily Mail

Not a sentence that you read that often

I would assume (I know dangerous when the EU is involved) that there would be some sort of excemption for classics. The problem is, how do you know when a car reaches 10 years old that it is not a future classic?

True & Daily Mail don't really sit together.

I've heard this rumour a few times in the past, so its definitely something that has been at least mentioned a few times at EU level. However, I really doubt it could be implemented in any reasonable way. Lets just pray the manufacturers don't have their way as clearly this would be something that they would lobby for, after all, they need consumers to buy new cars, right? It has nothing to do with the environment at all, as usual.

"True" and "Daily Mail", (in my opinion), is the definition of an oxymoron.

I don't see how this can be good for the environment.
Surely the improvement in emissions of a new car is far outweighed by the resources used and emissions produced in manufacturing it.

This along with the proposed restriction of only dealerships being allowed to repair/maintain cars is really only pressure by the manufacturers in order to keep their profits up.

its illogical, inpractical, environmentally disasterous and would hit the poor hardest so wouldn't be very popular amongst the lefties in the EU. It's just another silly EU scare story and I wouldn't give it much more thought. As has been said, more CO2 is produced manufacturing and transporting cars than the cars produce themselves - hence the longer they last the better the environmental impact - plus as they age and the owners have less cash, they tend to use up scrap parts, again helping the whole recycling process.

It is possible that someone has said, "wouldn't it be great if we could ban cars over 10 years old as its them that kick out the most co2" but its a long way from that to actual legislation. I can't see the new eastern block members being too thrilled with it either!

Its rather like that that lib dem MEP Chris Davies' idea last year to ban cars that can do over 100mph. A really dumb idea (from a complete moron - given some of his other 'thoughts') with no practical benefit, based on a total misunderstanding of the issues, the engineering and the real world.

The EU seems to be full of these dipsticks, but fortunatley the majority want to stay on the gravy train so aren't going to commit political suicide.

Not sure about Tokyo, but Singapore has a 5 year rule. Also have a rule that all cars must be automatics.

At the risk of sounding facetious, Mercedes Benz, aka Daimler AG have already subscribed to this EU law in waiting, vehicles made post 1998 will either crumble with the in-built tin worm or critically fail with repair costs far outweighing vehicle value.

Amazing how politicians can 'slide-in' laws without the populus really noticing!!
