Hello everyone it’s me again.

I have a question that I pretty much fear the answer for cause I know it’s not a good one.

I recharged the A/C system on my 1987 420SEL and took it for a drive.

Nice cool air! :p :p :p

I parked the car and left it for the night. When morning came and I backed the car out of the garage and noticed that there was a puddle of clear oil (Easter Oil) on the garage floor located where the center of the car would be and back as far as the firewall (partition between engine and passenger compartment).

My question is how common is it for the evaporator to rupture or could this be that the expansion valve has gone bad to cause such a leak?

Anyways the leak and a rather big one I assume has occurred somewhere in the heater housing catching the Ester Oil and allowing it to run out the condensation tube.

My fear is that this is a dash out repair that is very expensive to have done. Or could it be the expansion valve that can be repaired by removing the cover under the instrument panel?

Any thoughts?

Thanks Television for the reply,

Is it possible for the expansion valve if leaking to cause the ester oil to come out of the condensation tube?

I took it to a local who just automatically said if it's coming out the condensation tube it's the evaporator leaking.

When I exposed the expansion valve from underneath I could feel oil on it.

I personally felt that he did not want to be bothered with it.

I live out in the country and repair shops are few and far between and I really did not want to take it to the Stealership at $110.00 just to open the hood.

And if it is the expansion valve I have been reading. It only makes mention of two O-rings. Should their not be four of them.

Two for the evaporator and one for each hose?

All I see is the ones for the hoses.
