Hi ya,

Been lurking on the site for a while and thought I'd introduce myself. I've just got 300te estate to replace my old Frontera (Whoever nicked it did me a HUGE favour!). Have to say I'm really enjoying the change so far, but am still getting used to it - turned all the dash lights out by mistake, resetting the trip meter, last and thought something had died on me! D'oh!

Just a couple of questions to start with though
1) The temperature dial light has gone, is it much of job to change the bulb?

2) I only get cold air out of the central vents. Is this a merc quirk or is something broken?

Cheers!:)

Hi mate, glad you like your new car, I'm sure your local petrol station will! :)

1) Not a particularly difficult job, but the cluster has to come out. Simple enough to do, but can be a fit fiddly. Do a gooooooooooooogle search for "w124 binnacle (or instrument cluster) removal"

2) Yes, cold air out of the centre vents in normal, it's like that on all Mercs, (and on another popular make of kraut car I've owned :))

i remember changing the bulbs in the temp wheel in a w123 and at the time had spare bulbs from replacing nearly all in a citroen bx dash, they were the same but slightly brighter than mercedes, so did both wheels - a lot clearer at night, i think they are still the same type.
cheers
simon

I think the guys have got the temperature dial mixed up.

No need to remove the instrument binacle - nothing to do with it.

The dial merely pulls off the spindle and the little bulb will be seen.

Sorry mate, temperature gauge? temperature dial? all the same to me! :p

If you need a hand putting your cluster back in just give me a shout! :D

PS. A bulb has gone on my temperature WHEEL on my w124, how easy are they to change?
