Exhaust manifold

Does anyone know where i can get a manifold for a merc clk avantgrade 2litre(kompressor) 2001 model.

just found out that my catalyst has gone, and also need a manifold. have rang merc and they quoted over 300quid.

anyone know where i can get one cheaper, anyone experienced this?

Can the manifold be welded? they normally go along the seam

the garage says when they start the work then only they know if it can be welded. so its 50/50. once they start doing the cat, they can only tell me then if new one required or it can be welded

Remove it and take it to a fabricator, rather than a garage. They'll stand a much better chance of getting the welding right.

As LuLu ,,One snag with welding is that it can weaken the metal next to the weld, I have seen them on the ramp at Ollies, I would have thought that this component is slightly stressed,to cause it to split in the first place, and once re welded they could be fine

The trick to welding them succesfully is as follows;
Prep the affected area & then place them in a hot oven for a couple of hours.
Remove from the oven & weld as required.
Place back in the oven,and after 30 mins or so turn the oven off & allow the part to cool in the oven overnight.
After all this abuse the mtg face will have to be refaced,but all the manifolds that I've had done have lasted.

I agree with you 100% meanie on cast iron, but these things are steel plate on this car

Mines got a welded one on and it's been fine fitted it myself easy job got the old one needs welding though if your interested I can take it to the guy who welded mine if you want to buy it

The really dumb thing is that I did a head job on one before Christmas!!!

The best method of welding these is to drill each end of the crack, pre heat to 150 degrees C then tig weld using 317 stainless steel wire (heat resistant stainless with a high elongation factor, helps with the expansion and contraction of the manifold)
