If you want it to sound like a SLR then you will need to remove the entire exhaust system from the manifold back.

That should do the trick.

I'm not sure that will be enough, you may have to transplant some sort of V8 into the engine bay to be certain.

A cheaper alternative is to get a Mercedes McLaren SLR ring tone for your mobile, that should be sufficient and save you some cash.

I'm sure I read somewhere that you can actually insert a Smart for 2 into the tail pipe of an R230 exhaust. It may be a neat fit, but should give you the sound you are looking for. Remember and post some pics if successful.

I think you need to fit a jibcl500 and an rfo65 and secure them firmly into the seats ..they should make ur R230 pretty SMART you may even find some on this forum... as fo the original question try a big bore from a citroen saxo or similar..

Close the roof & don't press the accelerator. Take out 1/2 the plugs as well for good measure, although they will have to be the alternate ones to keep it smooth.

The back box on my E300D is on the way out.

Sounds ‘right proper’ at the moment.

Looking forward to getting a new silencer soon.

PS - Back box - GSF just over £100, Merc part £121.

We are pulling you leg mahadeshwar don’t take it personally!

Anyway, basically an exhaust sound originates from the engine. Obvious, however a 4 will always sound like a 4, a 6 like a six etc. You can make them fruitier by having a free flowing system and by changing the induction, including the fitting of supercharges and turbo/s (which actually quieten the exhaust noise). Displacement also makes a difference, thus getting an SLR sound I’m afraid will require a large V8, superchargers, similar valve timing and crank orientation.

Expensive.
