Going through the process of replacing the dried out crust of the white paste on the back of the ignition module on my 560.

Firstly is this a standard heat sink paste or is there some heavy duty automotive type available.

Secondly any idea what the backing film is made of as I would like to replace it with new material.

Cheers

There is only one type of paste, Maplins or computer shops.

Backing can be mica sheet or silicon rubber, what do you have now

Thanks for the response, the film that covers the paste is a very thin clear material. Looks like cling film but is crisp to the touch, presumably it conducts heat very well or there wouldn't be any point covering the paste with it.

All the official Mercedes manual says on the matter is that the foil should not be removed, no doubt they would be much happier to supply a new unit for a grand or so than give information on repair.

The chances are it is mica, you can get some that is used in the top of microwave ovens, any service place should keep it, or go to your local tip where they are being thrown away, every microwave has one in the top
