The H/L LED stop light unit (in boot lid) on my 2005 C230 Sport has failed, is this easy to replace and where can I get hold of one at a reasonable price.

I would check that you have 12 volt on the lamp before you take it out,,its possible that you have a broken wire near the boot hinge

Very Very common fault!!!

Held in with 2 10mm nuts.

Strip the boot lid trim to fit, 10 min max!!

Not such an easy job as you suggest. Not able to get all the trim out as unable to remove the Reflective Triangle mounting lever. have pulled it back to expose the unit and disconnected the connector which consists of 2 leads, have tried them and am not getting any (12v) power to them when Ignition on and brake pedal pressed, other rear brake lights work ok. Have tried wigglying the lead to see if there is a break anywhere but no success. Looks like I will have to run a separate feed to the H/L stop light. Any advice guys?
Also looks like the unit as far as I can see is clipped in not held with nuts.

Can you see the wires where they folow the hinge, that is where the break will be.

What I do on the wires to find where the voltage has stoped is to push a pin through the plastic insulation and join the meter or test lamp to that,,its a way of finding the break without damaging any wires

Well it turned out to be a faulty unit after all. So had no choice but to fit a replacement.Must admit the actual 12v connector is pretty poor quality and not very substantial. Not the quality I would have thought from Mercedes.

Is it possible to open them up to see what failed

Sorry Malcolm but I have already binned it, my mate, he is an indie (general not specialised) replaced it for me. It was his comment that the connector pins were pretty feeble.
