Hi Folks

Bought a 2000 CLK320 cabriolet for the wife about 2 weeks ago. Had some problems and wonder if anyone can help.

The car started to overheat (up to 110 when she noticed. ) Did not boil up, Fan does not seem to be cutting in.

I have put a sperate power supply on the fan which seems to work ok, so it must be a temp sensor I guess, However I have no manual so far so do not know where the sensor would be located.

Went into MB who suggest that it was a large regulator box that would cost upwards of £140 to supply.

Can I buy these from any other sources , and does anyone know of a good independant MB garage in Kent ( I am near Ashford)

Also have a problem in that the previous owner removed the batteries from the key fobs. Bought new batteries and the fobs now open the doors, but not without setting off the alarm.

Again MB say an hours diagnostic may fix it - may not. Any (polite) suggestions would be gratefully received.

Many Thanks

Barry

The dealer was probably getting confused between the cabin fan and the auxiliary fan, which of course are two different things.

I don't know about yours but mine has a large fan with a viscous clutch that requires no power, and smaller auxiliary fans that 'back up' the large fan. If yours has a larger fan and it isn't spinning up, the clutch has probably died. The smaller fans, well I guess they'll be on a fuse or a relay, so that's where I'd check first - the relay may be sticking.
