HelloI have a 1999 E class 240 and the heater fan control has stopped working. I guess the first thing I should try is the fuse but I do not know which one. Can anyone help please.

There are charts in the fuse boxes that show which does what. There is a fuse box under the bonnet and another under the back seat (I believe there is a 3rd in the boot but that wont be relevant here!). Open the bonnet fuse box (long rectangular box just under the windscreen on the drivers (UK) side if you didn't know). From memory both charts list both boxes.

If the fuse is ok, a common failure is the fan regulator. The fan is generally ok but you never know.

if you check the fuse and its blown, replace it and if the fuse blows again the fan has seized.i have just had to change my heater fan which is just under the wiper so no need to get the dash out,do it under the bonnet......wqell you can on the 190's.

I have recently had the windscreen replaced and meant to get them back because the rain senser doesnt work. I know that they took the wiper motor out to get access to change the screen maybe they disturbed a connector on the fan if it is near the wiper motor on the e class. I know where the fuse box is. On the chart there is an item listed "fan fare" is this the fan motor? and it shows protected by "40 41" two fuses?

I doubt they would have touched the heater fan for the windscreen. The electrical connections and fan housing are all in the front passenger's footwell. You could check it very easily if you have a 12v tester. Let me know and i'll give you the details. I'm not sure which fuse it is but check any fuse that may be related. Clearly any fuse that has gone would be a problem for something. It is possible that there are 2 fuses as there is a live and a control circuit but "Fan Fare" sounds like an optional air horn to me.

dead right

Fanfare is on of those lovely middle-european phrases for a horn of some sort.
If the diagrams are in german, then the description of the heater fan will be somthing with "geblase", or Heizungs-geblase" in the script, if memory serves me right.

the old problem is back again - the fan blower is not working - I have noticed this time that the 'rest' light is not on neither is the 'ec' light -
Can anyone point me to the correct fuses and fuse box I should be looking at or if these are not related what to look for next.
Thanks
