Fault code p0720

Hi all have read the above code and its saying the output speed sensor circuit fault.what is this as i called parts division at merc for a part number and was told its the transmission sensor at £684.00.is this about right for an old car ?.and he also stated i need to be vat reg business to buy it and have a merc garage fit it ?? Lol its an old cat on an 03 plate lol.please advise

If you're trying to buy direct from MB I can see they would be restrictive in who they deal with. If you're trying to buy from an MB dealer he's talking out his exhaust pipe.

All i asked him was what was this output sensor as the auto box is jumping now n again he didnt even know what part i wa talking about.i just wanted a part number n buy one n get it fitted
