This only seems to happen when the weather gets hot....like now.

I drive 1 mile and then get the following four messages:
1. BAS (Brake Assist) Visit Workshop!
2. Speedtronic. Drive to Workshop!
3. ABC (Active Body Control). Visit Workshop!
4. ESP. Visit Workshop!

I stop the car and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock and all messages disappear and I then get 'No Malfunctions'. All then ok for the rest of the journey.

As I said this only happens when the weather is hot ?

Car is a 2001 S Class (S500). Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

The lock to lock fix is interesting. This implies that the steering angle sensor is out of sync. I'm not sure what effect heat is having, especially if, having reset it the first time, the problem then goes away. I assume you don't switch off, just pull over and swing the wheel and the problem goes away. The only thing I could think of would be that when starting up, there is a power problem and the system is shutting down momentarily. It then needs a reset and is fine. Either that, or the angle sensor is faulty.

Thanks guys for the replies. I'll try the cheap and easy option of changing the brake light switch first and see if that cures it.

Cheers

Latest:

Drove the 5 miles to my Merc. dealer and bought a replacement brake light switch (£11.00 inc VAT). Did another 20 miles and guess what.........no malfunctions !

So much for my "only happens when it's hot" theory !

I'll keep you informed how it progresses.

Thanks again.

Well having bought the new brake light switch I fitted it and so far so good.

No malfunctions still.

Fingers crossed it's now fixed.

good to hear it was fixed,

i wish all posters would post the end result to their fix, it would certainly make things easier for the rest of us in the long run

Dougtsc,

I have a similar problem, with the message 'service brakes vist workshop', but have had new brakes, discs and sensor. Brakes work fine, but message always there.

Can you let me know were I find the brake light switch, and is it easy to change.

Thanks,

Gurj

Brake light switch is at the top of the brake pedal.
