Back from a trip jumped into the car BUT battery duff and fault lights flashing.
MB agent fitted new batt but as it was Saturday said could not reset fault display which has reverted to German, shows faults such as roof not closed (I do not have soft top) and my headlights will not turn off while the ignition is on. Any advice would be welcome, MB has told me to book it in and in the meantime has charged me £170.00 for batt and "initial look not fix"
By the way it is a C Class 3.5 years old.
Thanks

£170 for a battery that was worth £60 - tops! (ring round - Halfords etc and check prices but heavy duty Bosch batteries were not that expensive last time I bought one). I would also question the quality of the original. I have 5 and a 10 year old Mercs and both are on the original batteries. Just replaced the one on the Mother in laws 5 year old Megane- and that doesn't move from one week to the next.

Anyway, for £170, I would insist they reset it (2 min job anyway), valet the car and have the MD clean my shoes into the bargain!

They've ripped you off as you were desparate - i'd make my displeasure known..

I agree with above however i think i would do some homework first. pop to another dealer and ask whether you have been given a fair dealer as you think it may be a bit exessive. then armed with that knowledge go back to your dealer, explain the situation in pleasent terms and do not accept any reply they give you. just keep calm and keep reitereating the information you have. they will have 2 options. 1 is to sort out your issues with a full applology and possibly a refund. 2, is to ask you to leave the establishment, which they have every right to do. as you leave announce you are going to the small claims court to demand satisfaction, and then go to one and start proceedings againt them.

all of the above depends on the advice another dealer gives you. so go and get your ammunition ready. if another dealer says you have been treated fairly then unfortunalye it is an expensive lesson.

the handbook should explain how to get the permenant lights disabled.

Many thanks for the replies can anyone tell me how to reset (even to purchase s/ware etc), by the way this is not the first time the MB agent has tried to convince me I should have bought a BMW or other.
