I have read a few posts regarding faulty fuel gauges but I need to draw your attention to this, before you dash out to get the thing repaired.

Just like the others, I brimmed the tank, got home, left it for a night, in the morning.........needle on zero!!

I couldn't afford the £119 pounds for the two senders and the three hours labour (Absolute rip off!!) to fit. I left it and relied on the odometer but, after about a week, it gradually got better and now it has been perfect for about six weeks. IT CURED ITSELF!!!!!

I am now waiting for the worn out tyres to grow new tread and the the oil leak on the differential to seal itself back up.

Seriously though, it is worth the wait to see if the faulty gauge repairs itself before spending £300 at your local Mercedes 'stealer'. I know how much my '180 will do on a full tank and I drive it consistantly. Most people know, just by looking at the odometer when they are due a refill.

C180 Fuel guage

My C180 fuel guage did exactly the same thing, over a period of a few weeks it intermittently would show zero even on a full tank but now it seems to have cured itself!

...mine too

My fuel gauge plays up intermittently. About once or twice every WINTER it goes mental. Basically it stays at zero OR at some other value, sometimes also involving the reserve tank light coming on. Over time, the fault cures itself. I have no intention of doing anything about this intermittent fault.
A related "problem" is that if I "mark" the level of the gauge just before turning off the engine after a trip, when I turn on the engine the next morning, the indicator never quite rises to the same level - always a bit lower.
A final gripe is that if you fill the tank until the nozzle "cuts out" and monitor the amount of fuel used to bring the gauge down to different levels (full, .75 , .50 , .25 , reserve light on) then this paints a very different picture meaning that different "quarters" of the tank hold different amounts of fuel. I'm used to it now but it really bugs me.
