Recently bought my CLA180, and generally the car is great (if a bit thirsty at times), but one issue I've had since I bought it is that niether of the two key fobs will lock/unlock the doors and/or boot. I guess that means it isn't be alarm protected either? The keyts start the car and I can drive it, I just have to use the emergency blade to lock/unlock the drivers door.
Anyway, the dealer I bought the car from (Non-Merc Franchise) tried replacing the batteroes to no avail and then said they'd spoken to their local Mercedes Dealer who told them the keys needed replacing (think this was verbally, not by diagnosing). So they agreed to pay for two new keys, I just had to do the legwork taking the car to Mercedes to order them.
So I took the car into my local Mercedes Dealer, who had the car a full day to 'pull the codes' required to order the keys. I took my V5 and driving license in, and they awaited payment from the franchise dealer before they could/would order the keys.
Longish story short, the payment was delayed and has only just been made over 2 week slater, so the keys remain un-ordered, but MB have asked me to take the car back in tomorrow to pull another code and they can then order the keys, which they say should only take a few working days to come from Germany.
However, the technician at MB said it was unusal for both key fobs to fail, and that suggested an issue with the car, not the fobs. I can only go off what the franchise dealer told me, and they have agreed at this stage to pay for new keys (at a cost of over £600 for the pair).
So now the question. Has this happened to anyone else,i.e both key fobs failing? If not, does anyone know what on the car may be at fault, and how much it could be to sort?
Cheers for an advice offered, but as above I'm taking it into MB tomorrow to pull another code, and I'll update once keys are received and if it sorted the issue.
