hi, did a search on the forum, but couldnt seem to find a similar problem to mine. recently noticed that my lights did not come on when i turned the switch clockwise to on, played with it, then lights came on, just thought it was one of those things. again, this happened, i hit the dashboard area around the switch, and lights came on, so obviously its a loose wire or faulty switch. what i would like to ask before i start to look at the problem is:
1. does the small dash area around the switch easily come off to get to the switch? there does seem to be a groove where i could fit in a thin screwdriver or knife etc, but i dont want to start damaging or mark the interior if you know what i mean,
2. or do i just go under the bonnet and inspect the wiring around the headlights as a starting point?

electonical faults arent my favourites, so any guidance would be appreciated. many thanks.

The light switch is held in place by a large nut behind the operating knob (pull off the knob), take the trim from underneath the dash and around the pedals off and you can extract it, the wiring unplugs from the back of the switch.

Are you talking about a 210 model?? I think these guys are describing a 124 model.

Yes, i believe mine is a W210 model, 1997 R reg E300TD, the frog shape front so to speak...so i suppose the above advice is not appropriate to me? i couldn't pull off the light switch, and i am tempted to try and remove the dash area around the light switch but didn't want to do that just in case its not supposed to come off! anyway, i'll have another attempt later today...
