Faulty rev counter and little heating

Hi,

My first foray into Benz ownership, having bought a w124 300d 1991, I'm now getting the old girl back into shape.

Having had the fun of successfully repairing the self leveling system (new spheres, pipes and struts!!) I've turned my attention to the rev counter which persists on sitting at zero revs and an air con system that seems to be dead - the unit pumps through precious little hot air when turned right up and the compressor does not engage.

Has anyone wisdom/experience of overcoming these problems?

Regards

Rich

Rev counter's driven off the alternator, IIRC. If the a/c compressor won't engage you probably have no gas in it. Which probably means a new condensor is required. A dodgy duovalve won't help the heating / cooling either

Search this forum and you'll find lots of threads for these problems

The duovalve isn't the only cosideration in your quest for heat. I've just cured the lack of heat on my W124 250TE by the simple method of back flushing the heater matrix(es?). Dont forget that there are 2 matrix(es), one for the passenger side and one for the driver side. and you need to reverse the direction of flow several times until you're sure all the rust and crud is flushed out. Unbelievably hot now, completly the opposite to the way things used to be.
