Temp gauge on 94 E300D climbs to normal temp ok, then appears to short out, up to stop [way past red mark] then flickers about for a while then returns to normal, have replaced sender unit but problem still exists.
Is there a voltage stabilizer on the gauge? Any suggestions please.

I've got exactly the same problem, on the same car! Does anyone know how to fix/replace the gauge. Could there just be a loose connection, and if so, where are the first places I should check? Thanks

faulty gauges

hi the first thing to check is the bunch of earth wires n/s/r inner wing just by antenna. these become oxidised & cause all kinds of odd elec faults especially dash pod.
give it a go & let me know.
cheers ted.

If you check the voltage at the sensor, it should decrease as the temp increases. (I think)

It sounds like the wire from the sensor to the gauge is shorting out somewhere. This will show up with a meter.
