Hi are Febi Bilstein Gearbox filters any good. There is such a difference in the price. I know some people say you only get what you pay for, but some MB original parts are not of the same standard as some cheaper, better quality ones. Has anyone used these? See below.

Also do you need to change the plug pictured on each fluid change?
Does anyone have the service sheets on this?

I'm very attached to my gearbox so I always buy MB filters. Oil filter too, 5 at a time. Not expensive.

And Febi is a bit of a lottery quality-wise. Read up on the forums for Febi comment.

Have a look an AUTODOC if you aren’t in a hurry and don’t want to buy MB .

I confess I have no experience of Ridex. BUT, if the price seems too good to be true, it may well be. Ridex appears on AutoDoc as the cheapest for most of my AutoDoc searches. I usually pay someone to fit difficult/critical parts so I only want to pay once and for that reason I choose the best.

If it was a non-critical/easy fit part (washer bottle motor? car radio?) then maybe the cheapest is worth a shot. Otherwise, we get prices from MB and are sometimes pleasantly surpsised (but not always!!!)

Remember, you have a Mercedes.

As a general observation, some people may be unscrupulous enough to fit the cheapest parts and then sell on the car. A pretty rotten attitude, in my opinion. Others are serious about their car and wish to keep it in the long term, in which case the best quality parts are justified.

Me rambling.

Are there any Mann filters on AUTODOC for this?

I echo the ridex comments.

I agree that not all expensive and genuine parts are great and can be be bettered by aftermarket/cheaper parts. On filters when doing my own cars over 1.7 million miles I’ve always stuck with Mann filters. Invest never the gbox myself on Mercedes so just get original as the Indy does it and that’s what they use.

Looking at the Ridex Website. They are a German based company with all the ISO accreditation. I suppose if they were selling parts at twice the price people would think that it was a better product. I will keep looking.

That's about what we paid. No complaints.

So is Trucktec but they get very poor reviews. Febi is German too. Germanness does not automatically mean quality.

I see Febi parts with "Febi Germany" on the box. But this does not imply German manufacture. Some Febi parts are made in Germany (flex discs from SGF) so it's not always misery.

Looking at the picture of the invoice, seals, fluid, filter, pin(?) all in for just under £8 including VAT - filter was £14.40+VAT.
Yes very reasonable
