I thought that you might like some feedback to the thread that I posted on the 18th Jan. After much research (having bought the 2 books on Bosch injection systems as recommended here) and talking to a friendly mechanic who was prepared to listen (he has since borrowed my books!), we decided to change the lambda/oxygen sensor. What a difference! The car is much smoother/powerful etc, with absolutely no sign of "throttle freezing". apparently the old one was reading constantly 5v, whereas the new one reads from 0.9v-4.9v - a result at last.

Freezing throttle/"floaty" steering

Hi this story relates to a 1994 E280 with 164k miles, although we also have a 1990 E200 and a recently acquired 1995 E280 estate, which incidentally has a strange floaty sensation at times, i.e. the steering is not precise and needs constant adjustment at any speed over 40mph. Does anyone have any thoughts?
