Hi everyone! I am in the process of restoring or should I say repairing the neglect on a 1987 420 SEL that I picked up off of E-bay in December Ho Ho Ho. So please forgive me if I ask a lot of stupid questions like this one here…

But does any one know what lamp or the location of the lamp that the fiber optic automatic gearshift selector light connects too? This was pretty high tech in the eighties but makes a lot of sense since fiber optics carry light from a source to a destination – impressive! But I can’t seem to find the location of the source in my DYI book and I would hate to have to tear into the console only to find out that something stupid like the ash try lamp is it’s source of illumination.

Malcolm,

Yes, the W126 models [as you already know] was in a class all of it’s own. A time when MB surpassed the others in both technology and craftsmanship. The W126 was and still is a fine automobile that is enjoyable to drive. These cars where truly built for life, not like today, when 100 K is to be considered as life.

Any ways thanks for the link to the schematic this sheds some light as to what I will be looking for when I tear into her. I did notice though by looking at other threads that you refer to this site quite often. Is their an English version of this site??? I think it is a great site and hats off to it’s creator

No English version, but is ideal for showing where things are,the fuse in the rear of the cluster is a red round one.
