:D Yes can you believe it, after all the Mercedes we have had since the early '80's, this is the first electrical issue we have experienced. The SLK has a light on on the dash, but my wife (bless her) got the manual out and read through it and found the Fault/warning messages section and carefully read it.
Then she told me a short while after that a warning light has come on in Sneaky (our name for the SLK) As I have absolutely no idea of electrics (I can set a car on fire changing a fuse :() I just answered OK with a blank look.
As luck would have it while at my Son's for Christmas there was a TV show on about an SLK which we watched out of curiosity and this SLK had the same light on, even after watching the cause and fix I am still non the wiser, so it will be off to the MB service department soon

If the engine lamp is on then do check the cam sensor plug smack in the center top of engine, pull the plug off and if oily get the blocker from MB

Hi Television, many thanks for that, I must say that my mechanical ability is a bit better than my electrical skills. I will check this and let you know what I find :)

Ok, my wife has just informed me that it is the BAS/ESP lamp that is on. I did say my electrical knowledge is shocking

Then sadly the car will need a test on STAR to tell you what sensor is wrong, but thinking again the Brake lamp switch can cause the fault and at only £12 and easy to replace do that first :D It sits on top of the brake pedal

If not the brake switch then more than likely a wheel sensor , star will show which one .Had the same problem on the wife's slk.

Presumably you are referring to a recent episode of Wheeler Dealers.
Just had a quick look at it, and in that particular case, Edd had to get a mobile mechanic to read the fault codes.
They showed the fault code on screen -
"C1142-01 B24/2 (ESP lateral acceleration sensor) Electrical fault".
How fortunate that yer man just happened to have one with him in his van

My 230 went in just before Xmas with this light on. £200 later, 2 parts replaced, a brake sensor switch and a brake light switch.

In addition to the light being on, I have now been informed by my dearest that the light is temperamental, not been on today but was on a couple days ago, Just to make the thread more elusive
