Is it just the drivers door? if so £1K is on the high side, even with fading it in to the other panels (although I've noticed you are in London). Bonnet badges are not that expensive from the dealers.
A note of caution regarding protected no-claims insurance. When it comes to renewal and you say you had a claim because of the keying and badge - your premium will go up. When you tell them that you had protected no-claims bonus and that there should be no change. They will say that yes your bonus is protected however the premium has gone up as you have had a claim. When you say well what was the point of having a protected no claims insurance policy they will say, the premium would have gone up even more if you had not protected your bonus. A conversation you will not win and is very frustrating.
I would find a decent spray shop and see what they would charge and keep it away from the insurance.

It is possible to get a good job on a door for £100 it depends on the colour and the angle of all the panels and how they can be seen in the same light, as too whether more panels need to be matched.

The Rolls Royce club would reckon that 25% of all new cars are off the road at any one time through being vandelised.

A sad day indeed. Malcolm

The best advice I can give you is .............Leave it alone, because some moron will do it again once you have had it fixed.I have spent the last 30years trying to protect my cars from the idiot's and now i finally realise that they will always win:!: :!: I have tried my best to always park my car in safe places, remote corners of supermarket car parks etc, never parking next to old three door hatchbacks,I even considered getting the wife pregnant so that we would be entitled to a mother and child (WIDE) space in car parks.

I have just bought a 1992 500SEL in original condition FSH etc,but it has a few dents here and there.I have decided not to fix them, because it feels great parking it up and not worrying to much about any new additions!!!!!

I used to own a mint 230TE,I would never take it anywhere dodgy. My wife and I decided to go touring in France so rather than take the nice Merc,we took our crappy old Volvo instead.I left the 230TE on the drive at home and off we went(safe in the knowledge that my car would be secure:rolleyes: )
However while we were away a freak wind blew out an upstairs window and yes you guessed it smashed into the rear panel on the Merc!!!!!!!!!!!causing almost £1500 worth of damage. The Volvo came back undamaged.

£1k sounds high. I had the rear wing repaired and blended in to the rear door and the whole cost was less that £200 for a pucker job. I assume your quote was from the dealer. That said, if the ins co is picking up the tab, then the impact on your premium will be no different if its £100 or £9000 so you are probably best at the dealer.
