HI EVERYONE, I ASKED ON A EARLIER POST ABOUT A NOISE I HAVE AND IT WAS SUGGESTED IT WAS PINION BEARING, BUT I ALSO NOTICED THAT FOR IT TO BE A PINION PROBLEM THE NOISE WOULD BE HEARD WHEN PULLING, MINE IS THE OPPOSITE, IF I EXPLAIN WHAT IVE DONE TO FIND PROBLEM NOISE PERAHPS SOMEONE WILL KNOW WHERE ITS COMING FROM. FIRSTLY THE NOISE IS HEARD WHEN TAKING OFF GAS AND ALSO COASTING IN GEAR OR OUT OF GEAR, EVEN WITH ENGINE OFF AND ROLLING,IT DOESNT SEEM TO BE THERE WHEN IM ACCLERATING OR COULD BE NOISE OF ENGINE DROWNING IT OUT, ITS NOT A LOUD NOISE, ITS LIKE WIND OR SOMEONE BLOWING ACROSS TOP OF BOTTLE AND IT SEEMS TO BE IN THE GEAR LEVER REGION. IVE CHECKED WHEEL BEARINGS ( NO PLAY ) EVEN DROVE IN CIRCLES BUT STILL THER WHEN I TAKE POWER OFF, NO PLAY OR WEAR ON PROP JOINTS EITHER END, NO PLAY ON DRIVE SHAFTS, NO OIL LEAKS, EVEN TRIED SUPPORTING CAR AND DRIVING IT BUT THATS WHEN IT GETS STRANGE BECAUSE THE NOISE ISNT THERE, IM COMPLETLY PUZZELED BY IT, CAN ANYONE HELP PLEASE PLEASE, ROB:confused: )

Its probably going to be either centre prop bearing or the diff causing the noise.

Hi there,
Check the parking brake cable hasnt become uncliped and is rubbing on the prop. It will be above the heat sheilds so might have to drop them down to take a look. I have know the retaining clips to break and the cable drops slightly on a few occasions which makes a rubbing noise.
Its a possiblity!

Pinion bearings in the diff only make a noise when worn under load,(pulling) when the pinion is forced out of mesh, they are normally silent in the over run mode. This must be a propshaft bearing, engine mounting putting the drive chain out of line

C200 Noise- Prop Bearing.

Hi And Thanks For All The Advice, I Took Off That Heat Shield So I Could See Prop Centre Bearing, I Gave It A Shake And There Is Movement But Im Assuming There Should Be Some Give Because Of Rubber Circle Thingy ! But I Also Noticed That On The Diff Side Of Prop Under A Rubber Boot There Seems To Be Movement In Splines, But There Is Also A Definet Noise When I Try To Move Complete Centre Section, But Im Just Happy Its Not Diff " Thanks Again Everyone, ;)

Benz, very rarely gets diff or driveshaft proplems. but the propshaft centre bearing is often a bone of contention and the the noise normally comes during decelleration and not in accelleration, which seems to fit the bill.
