Can anyone help. I am proposing to buy my first mercedes - a c180 Kompressor coupe. Found one, 1 month MB warranty left 03 plate £12795 - leather seats, 6cd autochanger. Only concern is the manual gearbox - should this put us off - my husband is not so sure as majority seem to be auto - will be used in the majority for shorter journeys rather than motorway. Can anyone give any advice on what we should be checking for and can expect from this car - is price right? - Gearbox? Performance? Any advice would be helpful - seen car today - need to decide whether or not to buy! Many thanks in advance for a speedy response

Not knowing the exact model it is hard to value but for a 6 speed manual 180 kompressor coupe on an 03 plate. Prices ranges from £9,440 to £11,800 and around £1,000 more for an auto.
With only 1 month of warranty I'm guessing this is not from an MB dealer as they would give a yr's warranty.
There are hundreds out there so if this is not what you want then find another. Yes manuals are harder to sell on and the price should reflect it. However the C class coupe is not as 'auto' only as some of the other models.

Thanks you for advice - v much appreciated. Its a C180 Kompressor SE. Seems like it may be a bit pricy from what you say - however have seen some at mercedes for £2k+ more same year and cheapest at £11,400. Others I have seen have been a bit ropey - worn interiors, rusty alloy nuts etc - this is best one so far - Do you think we should keep looking? Also what is your view on manual gearbox?

Hi DonnaB.
Be careful not to get the 'buying fever'! There are many experts who I'm sure will come on here and give advice worth listening to. I don't consider myself of of those, but try not to be in too much of a hurry.
Good luck.

I prefer automatic gearbox as I drive 25-35K p.a. It very much depends if you are used to autos and what you prefer. Not sure if this model has the foot operated handbrake, if it does you will probably not have enough legs to drive it.
The C180 Kompressor SE is £8,930 to £11,200 again for an 03. This is also the older model with a face lift in 2004. It does seem expensive to me. Although just searched the MB used cars and they are around £12,995 for an 03 so maybe my guide is a little off.
However pls try it out and see what you think, MB's can be quite strange to start with but you may like it.

Wise words, I spent 9 months looking for the right Mercedes for me.
