Hi everyone,

Having recently purchased a 1993 vintage 280E, I've been going over it to see what needs doing - and the answer seems to be, "not much" :D

One thing I had noticed, though, is a lot of wind noise from the driver's door. A contemporary Autocar road test mentions that thicker door glass was fitted on these later W124 models - so out came the vernier calipers!

Sure enough, the driver's door glass is considerably thinner than that on the passenger side, so I assume that the driver's side was (incorrectly) replaced at some point.

So, can someone tell me if the same glass was also used in later 'E-Class' W124's - or was it specific to these '92-'93 'crossover' cars?

Thanks,
David

Interesting - mine was windy, but I changed the seals and pulled the doors in a bit on the striker plates and it cured it. I have some fabric covered door seals for sale in light grey as it happens.

I think some imported ones had 3mm glass as opposed to 4mm. Is all the glass genuine - do the marks/stamps all match?

I also think that my E280T is sometimes noisy around the front doors when i'm driving 160+ km/h on the autobahn. Which door seals should I change, the thick ones on the inside or the ones that are visible on the outside part of the doors?

Interesting...
My W124 was also a bit "wooshy" round the front door seals. I too adjusted the striker plates. Helped a bit, but didn't aleviate it totally.
I shall be interested if Mercedes fond a cure...
