Hi all - I own a C230 Avantgarde Sport on a 56 plate which I've owned for 4 months. Nice car - big improvement on my previous 53 C180K Elegance in every way except one - a loud and annoying wind noise from the top of both front door windows. The old car was much quieter.

Been to dealer (Oxford) who don't usually sort problems out on the first attempt and this was no different! They "pinched" the doors in a little which has made them more difficult to close, but made no difference at all to the noise. Seals etc seem fine, but I have noticed that by opening the windows ever so slightly the noise reduces, but by no means disappears.

Does anyone have any suggestions before it goes back to the dealers for a second attempt?

Many thanks,

Matt.

PS: Been lurking for a while so thanks to everyone on here for their advice and humour to date. :D

With wide electrical tape, you could try sealing up every outside gap in the door and window, this should eliminate the noise, if it dose, you could then remove a 1-foot section of the tape and test again to see if the noise returns, keep removing sections of the tape until the noise comes back, just trial and error really.

You will need a dry day for the tape to stick.

The only real cause must be the window guides must be set up incorrectly
, there are some guides for this in the MB service program.

Not sure if MB Oxford is too helpful in these matters

Getting in and out of the car would be interesting!

I *hate* wind noise, and to give the OP encouragement, I have to say that they don't all do it. I have a 54plate C270 and lack of wind noise was probably *the* reason why I bought an MB rather than a more ordinary vehicle.

Thanks for the suggestions chaps!

Will try the tape idea - thanks Dec.

Glad I got a response for my first posting from the living legend that is Television! Any chance you could elaborate on what the window guides are please Malcolm, and can I access the service program online?

Rory - I quite agree. Driving the old C was a silent experience. I suppose the good thing about the current one is that the noise is so loud, there is no chance for the dealer to make excuses etc!

ATB,

Matt.
