Hi all...I am looking at purchasing a MERCEDES 300CE Coupe, F reg with 82,000 FMBSH and was wondering if anyone could give me some advise on the car I am looking at. Is there anything I should be looking out for, like security system issues, cost and availability of spares, fuel economy etc etc...Anybodies help will be much appreciated.

Mines an F with 125k.

It should be up to date with a recent service. possibly a maintenance service at 82k.
Dont panic if it cranks a few times on the first start of the day.
Check Air Con, is it ice cold ?
Check ABS does it skid or not.
Oil Pressure should be 3 when starting and at 3 over 1500rpm
Check Oil for bubbles if so the head gaskets probably due.
It's fairly likely to be a 12v version, has it had a new V-Belt.
At 82k the exhaust is probably on its way out.
Does the door hang well.
It should accellerate fast, its 190bhp 3 Litre car, it should be quick.
Everything should work, it does on mine.
700Rpm Tickover

Fuel consumption isnt too bad. I got 210 Miles out of 1/2 a tank recently on a run to wiltshire.
When the fuel light comes on you have 9litres reserve.

How much is it up for ? and if it hasnt got a FSH dont bother.

hope this helps

PS I love mine, it's a classy ole motor that still gets admired lots and is very comfortable, ever since i got to know the owner of the local shell garage my social life has improved heaps ;-)

One other thing- check the coolant tank for oil- if there's any brown muck in there it's head gasket time.
