W220/2004/320 CDI
morning all

I drive a japanese coupe but bought my first ever mercedes a couple of weeks ago (kind of enforced move with a new born). It's a W220, 2004, S320 CDI with 128k miles with mercedes / authorised garages service history. Car runs sweet and is surprisingly free of rust. Next service is due after 8500 miles.

I want to know the following:

1 - How to check the oil levels in the car (on dash)
2 - How often do i need to top up the oil and what oil is best to use
3 - Do these car need DPF to be maintained i.e taking it on a motorway drive every now and then?
4 - what is the tyre pressure on standard 17 inch wheels?
5 - Any tips and cautions would be much appreciated

Kind regards

P.s. I registered a while back when my dad's E270 diesel was having issues.

Not sure I've seen an oil level check in my 215- the coupe version of yours and many identical components.

I'd always check the oil with the dipstick anyway!

Check once per month as with any common rail diesel and always use the correct grade as specified in your owners manual.

Yes, as with all DPF-fitted diesels they will benefit from a good high-speed run every now and again.

Correct tyre pressure is shown in your owners manual- you should really have a look through it.

There is a forum member C16RKC here who very recently sold his S320, he took it from a shed-like unloved object to a thing of beauty. Worth reading his thread on the subject, as he had the centre console out, steering wheel off (and swapped), buttons repainted, new satnav head unit (Android) plus many many other goodies.

Edit- here is the thread:

Hi there,

Great choice of car. I ran one for nearly 4 years and had no problems, whilst it will transport you in a style to which you will want ot become accustomed.

Checking the oil level is described in the hand book, and is easily done using the controls on the steering wheel.
I would top up with the oil used at the last service - it should be described in the service record, if entered by the person who did the service.
I don't think the car has a DPF, but all cars are the better of a good run every now and then.
Tyre pressures are as listed in the inside of the fuel filler cover.

I cant think of any specific foibles in this model. Just enjoy it. :D
