Sprinter 2014 316 CDI Auto
Good evening all, after many years of Transit ownership (more bad than good) I have finally decided to give the trusty Sprinter a shot. After search hi and low for one in my budget that has been well maintained, I managed to bag myself a 2014 model, 316 CDI with the auto box (not had an auto van before, so a first for me). Service history is impeccable and it comes with A/C, so even happier. Reasonable mileage for it’s age and the body work is not battered like a lot, could have spots around arches and over the windscreen, but all still surface so easily treatable.
Any things to keep a look out for? One thing, when is the timing chain due replacement?
Best to all,
Nick

Thanks mioba, it has got a full service history and a folder full of receipts, almost all at MB or a specialist. It’s just had a new alternator, belts, full service including diff and gearbox oils. Good to know there are no slapping chain issues that the Transits I used to have

Hello and welcome...

I may be mistaken but chain's aren't generally an issue on Mercs... I think that's a BMW thing really.

Would you agree that perhaps Sprinters.. or vans in general are gone expensive with all the camper conversions going on these days ?

Thank you,

Van prices do seem to be on the increase. I think the conversation are a factor. I noticed during my hunt that Sprinter prices were significantly greater than comparable vehicles generally, Crafters of similar age with much lower mileages being cheaper, same for Transits. For some reason, the Fiat/Peugeot/Citroen types were closest in price with very similar mileage.
I am very happy I went the Sprinter route, while I could have easily brought a cheaper van with less mileage, I suspect the reliability wouldn’t be there and I have to say, the auto-box makes it all the more enjoyable to drive, it’s certainly caught a few out when pulling away from lights etc.
