Hi guys .

My wheels & tyres arrive tomorrow and just want to ask if i should fit them myself !

SLK 350

fronts 8.5 J 225x18
Rear 9.5 J 255x18

Now the place i have brought the the wheels from tell me that i can fit them myself no worries . they are sending correct Bolts etc
But another guy told me that there are certain things to look out for and would need to get them fitted !!

Is it not as easy as taking a wheel off and then bolting the new wheel on ?

Any advice Hits , tips would be great.

Thanks in advance

Scott

ps, i have attached a photo of the wheels on a SLK 200 (amg kit)
decided to go for 18" rather than 19" in the end.

There can be issues with things catching if the wheel size was wrong, or the wrong bolts causing problems but I imagine the supplier is reputable, and as the supplier isn't fitting them, any damage or problems would be your responsibility anyway.
Blatantly if you ever get a puncture you'd have to remove the wheel then, so I don't see a difference.

Also, how are you going to get the new wheels to a fitter anyway - I doubt you'll get many 255/18's on the front seat of an SLK!
I'd just pop them on myself.

I assume they are supplying you with the appropriate McGard locking kit too?
I remember watching the TV used car waller flashing up a rover. spent an entire program on picking the right alloy wheels. Next episode it was on bricks!

Post us a photo when its done.

I presume that the wheels and tyre combinations are an accepted option for the vehicle? Have you checked that the wheel offset is correct assuming that the width and diameter are correct? The only other advice is to check that the wheel seats squarely without obstruction and the bolts are the correct length. The bolts can be checked by comparing the lengths of the old/new bolts protruding on the old and new wheel respectively. Check that the wheel spins without fouling anything with the suspension under compression and on droop and on both locks (use a bottle jack under the wishbone at the outer end and not just in the jacking point). Once you are satisfied with the fitment check the tyre pressures and then take the car for a 4-wheel laser alignment check - you don't want to ruin the new tyres. Fat low profile tyres are very sensitive to alignment problems in addition to adding greater stress to suspension systems. They will show up problems that were not apparent before.

After you have done all the above go for a spin!;)

Just watch when fitting the wheels because 99% of new tyres now are rotational it means you cant put the n/s/r wheel on the o/s/r they will be marked with an arrow on them some tyres are also sided for fitting on the rims.
