I have Fitted a Reversing Camera, but it has a strange electrical fault. Everything went fine, turned on the ignition, put on the brake and put it into reverse, turns on all is fine. Start the engine. put it into reverse everything fine, but on reversing, every time you put the brake on the camera goes off. This only happens when the engine is running, but not when sat with just the ignition on and the brake on.

What is strange is that when you put the ignition on and put the brakes on the brake lights do not light up. Not sure if this is normal. With the engine running and in reverse the reversing lights are on and the brake lights come on, so it seems that it is something to do with the brakes lights. Maybe I need to change the eath for the camera to the body.

I’d disconnect the camera and see if everything is working as it should. If it is then there’s an issue with the camera

I put reversing sensors on my smart… I was parking too far away…;):cool:
The thing is that my wife has back problems, that is why we sold her 3rd SLK, which was now too low for her at 64yrs and bought the Smart Car and it is easier not to have to turn her neck to reverse. Simple really.

I’ve been driving my smart for the last ~month whilst awaiting springs for my SLK - got back in the SLK yesterday and thought I was sat on the road… very different driving position.

Try a Smart Roadster... You really do sit on the road in them!

I despair of modern cars sometimes, '66 Cobra I can do with the roof up but it's a faff, flat floor E-Type is a bit of a letterbox but OK, GT40 old and new fine. Gallardo floppy top I struggled with, poxy thing is just like my trousers, low slung and racy!

@John77 Is the camera a Mercedes fitment or aftermarket?

Well sorted it out. I disconnected the earth to the monitor to run the earth directly to the metal chassis and on removing the cable, it all works without being connected to anything. It still has a connection to earth on the camera end still.
