hi

i have just aquired a large merc five cylinder diesel engine. it has been rebuilt and looks to be from the 60s or 70s. it has a shiney alloy rocker box and the block looks to be iron. at some time it has driven a auto box.

my questions are what, when and worth?????

i also have the auto box from the same, but this is as removed

cheers in advance

Could be from a w123 1979-1985 300D model. As you look a it from the front end, if it has a hydraulic pump at about 10 oclock then its from the estate car as the pump pressurizes the rear suspension. Value: A pint! (I'm after a good spare for my car :)) . There was a good one advertised at http://www.roundthebenz.co.uk/parts_for_sale.html but the guy told me he ended up dumping it !! which I find amazing but understand how 'stuff' can clutther the place up. What did you pay for yours - is it a good'n i.e. good compression?

i got it for nothing. i was given a mini (my true love) for nothing and whilst picking it up was asked to take the rest of the 'crap' as well.

there is the five cylinder engine, a gearbox, and boxes of injector pumps, starters, brackets etc. ive not even looked through it yet to see waht there is.

the engine has all been painted and polished up with new gaskets etc, but i dont think it has been fully stripped and rebuilt.

i'll let you know if there is a pump
