Having just changed the oil on my 300TE-24 i noticed a bodged weld to the underside on the offside rear. It looks likely that the familair W124 estate leak from the cargo space windows probably caused some rot which was patched up by the previous owner. The weld has already started to rust and whoever did it didn't even bother to put a drain hole in.

It also seems the leak form the rear windows that caused the problem hasn't been fixed as I'm startign to get damp in the footwells.

my decision is now whether to get the existing weld cleaned up and treated with waxoyl properly and a drain hole added, or get a body shop to do do the job properly.

Anybody got any ideas what this would cost roughly?

Also, what would be the likely cost of getting the window seals changed and the aluminum trims around the windows re-painted as these have some minor paint bubbling.

Any thoughts/opinions appreciated.

I'd bang a drain hole in there then clean & repaint the affected area

It is very common to find rust under the rear windows. The side window seals are DIY-able. The aluminium trim holds the glass in by expanding the seal. So carefully remove the trim - it's very thin and will bend - then remove the glass & seal. Clean up the mess you find, treat & etc and replace the seal, glass & trims

I wouldn't bother painting the trims on their own. But next time you have some bodywork painted pop them off and ask the painter to do them once he's matched the colour
