Hi all

I am new to SLC ownership, and have a few questions I hope you can help me with. My first project is to sort out the indicators. They flash a few times, and then freeze. The hazards do the same.

According to the manual there are two flasher units, located under the steering wheel, one for the indicators, and one for the hazard lights. However, the clicking sound seems to come from the centre console, near the hazard switch behind the gearshift. Could it be that my car is fitted with one flasher unit in this location?

I am assuming that the flasher unit is the cause of the problem, please let me know if you have other ideas.

Looking forward to your advice.

Kind regards

Hi there,
Early SLC's had the hazard flasher unit as part of the hazard switch (large 1" x 2" switch), later cars with smaller switches had the flasher unit either below the centre consol panel near the ashtray area, or below the instrument cluster, don't be fooled by the clicking from the audible unit behind the instrument cluster. Try the basic stuff first, give the fuses a twiddle, possibly a poor connection which is ok for a few flashes - until the bad connection warms up. As far as I know there is only one flasher unit in your car.

you may find you have a wonky earth. Sounds daft, but mine does this every now and again, and if I switch the windscreen wipers on, it corrects itself??!! Try it and see, if this happens, clean the earth points (above the fuse box, under the cover, into the bulkhead.

Gavin.
Your fault sounds very much like the ignition switch, common problem on R129's they can be dismantled and cleaned.
