Car is e230 elegance N reg.

The car had a flat battery, so that was replaced with a new battery. The remote fob locks and unlocks the doors fine, but the car will not start.

What could the problem be?

The lights on the rear view mirror are flashing: red, green, red, green alternately all the time.

Please help - do I need to reprogramme or reset anything to get it to work?

The key needs to be re-programmed.

Point it at the mirror for 3 seconds and then turn the ignition on. (it is in the handbook)

Also is it worth changing the key batteries too.

Ok, will try that.

But why are the lights on the interior rear view mirror flashing like that?

It warns of either a flat battery in the key or it is immobilised.

I have changed the batteries in the remote and it locks and unlocks the doors fine, but the car is still immobilised.

When I try to start, the red and green lights flash alternately, and I can here the starter trying to start the engine, but it doesn't fire.

Also, it seems like all the warning lights of the dash come on and stay on, even the ! in the middle of the cluster.

It is my aunt's car, so I don't know whether this is normal or not.

Any suggestions as to how to fix this?

Please help - thanks :)

to RESYNC the key to your car, to do so, do as follows,

SYNCHRONIZING LOCK SYSTEM
Aim the transmitter of the remote control at the receiver in the interior mirror and press transmitter button briefly twice. Turn the key in the steering lock to position 2 within about 30 seconds.

The GREEN or RED mirror led should light. If they both flash together at the same time then try again. If they continue to flash together then replace the batteries and try again, if they flash alternatly (red/green/red/green) then you may have some other problem like the car battery).

The battery has been changed for a new one, but the red and green lights still flash alternately.

Why are all the warning lights on, when you turn the ignition on to position 2?

I have had this problem before try disconnecting and reconnecting the car battery leave it disconnected for about 2-3 minutes.
I would say from experience that if the fob is unlocking/locking the car then then the key is synched.

I tried disconnecting the battery, and reconnecting it after a few minutes, but that didn't fix it.
Every single warning light is on - something wrong with the electronics then?

As it is not my car, I don't know much about it. I was shocked to find the battery is under the rear seats! weird?! :)

But, do you think it could be a fuse or something - and could you tell me where to locate it etc.

I don't want to have to go to mercedes as that will cost £££ - so any advice is appreciated.

Cheers

Daft question, but if the car was fitted with a tracker, and for one reason or another had engaged, would the car be locked down and doing as such?

Just my random thought from experience of another car.

Is there any way to bypass the immoboliser?

Or can I disable it, or reset it, and then rearm it?

I think that the immobiliser is staying on, even though the doors and unlocking with the key.

Please help :(

help

I tried to find a relay that I thought I could remove to let me start the car.

I looked near the battery, but couldn't see a relay.

Then under the front passenger footwell, I found the kickdown relay, removed it, but car still didn't start.

Also, I have heard there is a relay behind the glovebox that you can remove, to let you start the car - does such a relay exist, and how can I remove the glovebox?
