My March 2002 E240, last of the previous model, 90k miles.
This morning no life in battery. Jump started from wife's car.
Drove one mile, appears to be stuck in second (max 40mp at 5000 rpm).
Drove home and left running to get some juice in battery.
Tried to restart but no life apparently, not even a groan, just a click.
Can a dud battery lead to the gearbox sticking in second. There is no gearbox warning light on.
18 months ago gearbox failed and autobox specialists Stantons in Tonbridge, Kent, changed solenoid for £400.
Any help appreciated (including lift to garage!).
Mark

It would appear that you battery is completly u/s it will be the original. you cant charge a flat battery on the car as you have found out.-

Do get a good brand like Banner,Bosch,Exide,Varta,Lucas.

your car is in the limp home mode, wait till the new battery is on.

Once the new battery is on, you will need a Star Diagnostic reset, and you may have to reset some things manually as per the owners manual.

The STAR reset is not necessarily the case as it only effects car that have had a flat battery for many months and does not apply to all cars

If you dont have the radio code then it can be retrieved/reset on Star D, especially on a 2002 model. Small prrice to pay and they will give you the code for future refernce.:D

Asking for the code is a dam sight cheaper than joining up to STAR and you have it anyway when you ask for it, and not all sealers charge, whats the point in going to all that trouble:confused:

Here, we do that service for existing customers for FREE. So much for UK stealers. And to think I used to call them Dealers:confused: Simply connect Star and ask it to search Radio Code and input, its as simple as that.
