I got an accumate plugged into my W202 for the winter, it's a really good unit. Quite cheap (ish) too

Mmm Got a link?

I was thinking of a cteck? I think MB relabel them as their own?

I'm thinking I need to use a battery maintenance charger on my CLS. Just doesn't get the mileage needed to keep the battery fully charged

You can work it out by the standing drain, normally 55ma if all good, but there is the other problem when only used on short runs in that the comand can pull a lot of current while going to sleep, and that is many amps for some time, with Bose it is more than standard, even though the sound is off, that also uses quiescent current.

As NW Merc says ......
CTek chargers aren't bad either, they have a short lead which stays connected to the battery & a plug that connects to the charger so that you can easily connect & disconnect the charger (I have one on my bike)

I haven't had much success with Mobilo, they never turned up.
I think Varta make MB batteries, probably amongst others.

I dont know about comparisons between the accumate and ctek, depends on which brand you prefer, I got it for around 30 pounds, just attach the jack to the battery terminals and then plug it in when you need to.

I was thinking of leaving it connected and just plugging it in via a weather proof connector through the boot seal.

I have it plugged via an extension cable and place the whole thing in the boot

As Malcolm suggests get a Bosch Battery from ECP, I replaced mine last year with the correct Bosch Battery for my car and so far no more probs starting.
Good to see you back on the Forum Malcolm

If you buy a CTEK get this one - or a bigger one. http://www.amazon.co.uk/CTEK-CTE-MX...V1JI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1354699941&sr=8-1 The 5amp one is slightly more sophisticated and offers a higher charging rate. The standard MB one is based on the lower powered less sophisticated 3.8A MODEL http://www.amazon.co.uk/CTEK-Multi-...F4PC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1354699941&sr=8-2

Yes a very good point and well worth it as it would take more than 20 hours on the smaller one, if the battery was low

Thanks for the replies. I already have the CTEK MXS5.0 charger for my other (week-end) car - Porsche Turbo and used it whilst I was on holiday on the Porsche. That car runs fine on my return. Any comments about this Mobilo Assistance - is it worth keeping on a nearly 10 year old car by having the servicing done at a MB dealer? Anyone recommend a good independent MB specialist with full MB diagnostics facilities and who uses genuine MB parts or OEM parts? I am wondering should I switch for thge next service due in 6000 miles to an independent and lose the main dealer stamp next time around - I undersaatnd the labour rates at independents are a fraction of the main dealer rates (£50 + VAT versus main dealer at £130 + VAT).

Some comments and experiences from members t these enquireis would be gratefully received. The Porsche is maintained by an indpenendent specialist cos Porsche don't have such a thing as Mobilo after the three year warranty period unless one buys an extended warranty subject to a Porsche Inspection and that warranty is riddled with get-out-of-jail clauses.

You could afford to purchase AA breakdown cover from what you could save on a service done by an independent specialist.

As Peter's above post. I use an indie and the RAC for some £48 per year, you know that makes sense :D:D
